Aaron Koehn | “Remembrance” | Oil on Canvas

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

A statement from Aaron Koehn:

“Rememberance” deals with the loss of structure. The space is composed of a rigorous editing process which allows for the objective to become nonobjective. This process also works the other way around. I was searching for the space to paranthetically speak the interior of st. Peters, but in a very ambiguous way. Without a structural entirety, the space is compromised of hintings towards the landmarks at st. Peters church. These “hints” are mere overlays which shape and cover the structures before them allowing new space to be formed.  More info on Aaron Koehn: http://web.mac.com/aaronkoehn/

For more info, click on image, or visit: www.sanctuaryongreen.com

For over 30 years we have opened our home during the Holidays to explore our gallery of gifts and creations from our own studio and around the world.  As of last month, we are so excited to announce that we have opened a Cafe to compliment our gift shop and gallery, a long time vision and dream of Victoria Koehn.  With a traditional Bavarian themed menu, we hope this will only add to the experience and excitement each one our our guests receives when they visit us.  We have also added  a dinning terrace over the Spring which overlooks the beautiful Nine-Mile Wetlands in South Euclid, OH –  the experience is quite serene!

TwoaDays – Aaron Koehn

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

twoadaysIn a new series depicting scenes from painter, Aaron Koehn’s childhood, he captures and interprets the experience of a football practice.  Aaron Koehn’s paintings and drawings attribute themselves to the structure of events and the layers of depth and thought behind self-definition, through individual and group interaction.  Inserting new interpretations on time and place through rewriting the spatial narrative of memories and experiences. Depth, behind texture, light and shadow is a steady theme in his work.  More work and information on Aaron Koehn can be viewed at: http://web.mac.com/aaronkoehn/

Mother & Child

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Norbert recently completed ‘Mother and Child’ a 18″ x 24″ relief in a slab of slate.  With such an emphasis on wood sculpture, its hard not to forget Norbert’s equal passion for working with stone. The piece was hand chiseled and polished to a mirror like surface on selected areas, showing a fantastic contrast of texture and color.  The piece is part of our Artist Collection, for more information, please contact us at: studio@koehnsculptors.com

Frog Man

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

A look into the laboring process of working in granite.  This particular piece was quarried in St. Cloud, MN and weighs over 3000 lbs.  The work begins with saw-cutting to create the form, flowed by chiseling and polishing, a process that is extremely more time consuming than wood, but producing an unmatchable finished result.  Check back soon as we hope to have this piece done in early Spring!

Creating “RESTING WITH FRIENDS”

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Rarely do we get a chance to document our process, but with such a meaningful commission, we felt the need to show you this exciting process of transformation.  The 24′ long bass wood relief consists of 3 8′ long panels that are recessed into the wall. Designed and created specifically for the Nicu unit at University Hospitals in Cleveland, the relief depicts children at rest with domestic and exotic creatures in a playful, whimsical and calming composition. The wood, in part left natural, is lightly washed with soothing colors that reflect a harmonious sense of peace and calm for the viewer. This sculpture invites the viewer to gently touch and stroke the wood with gentle hands to further enhance a calming and healing experience.
